Bursaspor keeps impressing by defeating Andorra (85-68) and rallying Eurocup Final.
The Turkish side keeps defying all odds by knocking off Andorra… after Partizan and Olimpija Ljubljana, all games on the road. Bursa was in the lead since the 1st quarter (22-20) and never let it go. Andorra was still in the game at the beginning of the fourth (65-53) but was held to just 12 points in the final period.
They were led by a dominant Andrew Andrews (20 points, 3/4 from three) and a solid Onuralp Bitim (18 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists). Orioli seemed like the main threat for Andorra by scoring 11 in the first half but only scored 5 for the remainder of the game.
Bursaspor head coach, Dusan Alimpijevic, was really emotional in post-game interviews,
“Amazing! This is amazing! This is a fairy tale for the city of Bursa, for Frutti Extra Bursaspor and for us, personally. It’s amazing! As I said before the game, it would be most important how we would treat them on defense and if we were mature enough to understand that we needed to be tough, to be aggressive on every ball. This is a team that needs to put the players’ egos in your pocket, to go on the court and play, to share the ball, which we did. At halftime, I said ‘Okay, we missed some open shots, don’t be nervous about that, shots will come [fall in]’. The most important thing was that our defense was good. Defense is what kept us there and put us in the finals.”
Bursaspor will face the winner of the second semifinal between Valencia Basket and Virtus Segafredo Bologna (May 4, 20:30 CET).
