Sergio Scariolo denies the reports about his departure from Spanish national team at the end of EuroBasket 2022.
Rumours were saying that Scariolo wouldn’t be able to take part in National Team games in the coming next months. Virtus Bologna was expecting his coach to be fully committed with the team as early as possible, so, reportedly, there was a slight chance that Spanish head coach could quit his job. The Italian tactician has explained his contract situation to As.com.
“My contract with Bologna clearly allows me to participate in the National Team windows (coming in November and February). Moreover, my deal with the Spanish National Team expires after the 2024 Olympic Games.”
According to Encestando, the president of the Spanish federation apparently already made up his mind and he is already looking for an other coach. Jorge Garbajosa is keeping an eye on Joan Peñarroya (Valencia) at the end of the year, but Baskonia is also on the spot to sign him.
