The FIBA Executive Committee confirms that they are not allowing members of the Russian Basketball Federation (RBF) and the Belarusian Basketball Federation (BBF) to participate in the coming competitions.
It has been decided in a press release that FIBA Official Basketball Competitions will not be held in Russia or Belarus for the coming months. Teams from those two federations must withdraw from the following competitions :
- FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Qualifiers
- FIBA U17 Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022. Serbia will be replacing the Russian team. This competition will be played between from July 9 ou 17.
- FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022. The replacement team is Puerto Rico, as it was decided last March.
RBF and BBF teams also need to withdraw from FIBA 3X3 competitions :
- FIBA 3×3 World Cup 2022
- FIBA 3W3 U23 Nations League 2022
- FIBA 3X3 Europe Cup Qualifier 2022
- FIBA 3X3 U18 World Cup 2022
Players representing Russian or Belarusian clubs, cities, countries are not allowed to participate. Moreover, qualifiers won’t be held in those two countries for 3X3 Pro Circuit events :
- FIBA 3X3 World Tour
- FIBA 3X3 Women’s Series
- FIBA 3X3 Challengers
However, these decisions are not permanent. FIBA will keep a very close look to the situation, and may have to take additional measures.
