Zalgiris will make drastic changes for next season

After a disappointing season, in the Euroleague, and in their domestic league, the Lithuanian team is expected to make some moves during the offseason.

The season has been historic for Zalgiris but not in terms of success… They finished last in the Euroleague standings this season, for the first time in their history. They didn’t reach the LKL final for the first time since its foundation in 1993. It’s time for change for Zalgiris. The downfall of the team has been quick. From third in the Euroleague, back in 2018, to last in the standings.

Every foreign players are expected to leave Zalgiris this summer except Tyler Cavanaugh. Josh Nebo is set to leave, as he is looking for a bigger contract. Despire being under contract for next season, Joffrey Lauvergne and the club have mutual interest in parting ways. Niels Giffey, who is on a 1+1 deal, wants to leave, and is courrenlty exploring the Spanish and the German market. Three players will leave the club as free agent, Janis Strelnieks, Tai Webster and Regimantas Miniotas.

Edgaras Ulanovas and Lukas Lekavicius already signed their contract extensions until 2024 and 2025 respectively. There are still huge gaps to fill in this roster. One thing is certain, Zalgiris will be very active this offseason, in order to return to the front stage.
