These two teams has been intractable before this match. Bologna won 8 straight games and Milan were on an eight-game winning streak. Obviously, they both swept their opponent, but at the end of the game, only Milan remain unbeaten during these playoffs.
In a relatively low-scoring game (66-62), where both teams combined 49/137 from the field and 8/45 from downtown, Milan managed to make the difference. They out-rebounded Virtus Bologna, 50 to 41. Shavon Shield was one of the very few efficient players this game, as he finished as the game leading scorer with 18 points in 13 attempts, grabbing eight boards. The Euroleague Defensive Player Of The Year, Kyle Hines recorded a double-double, 10 points and 10 rebonds, he added a steal and two blocks.
The third quarter has been the turning point of the game, Milan outscored Virtus Bologne 22 to 13. During those 10 minutes, Milan grabbed 7 more rebounds, provoked 5 more free throws and shot 69.2% from the field. Milan is already doing better than last year, when they got swept in the finals against Virtus Bologna. In this best of seven series, Game 2 is already a must-win for Milos Teodosic’s teammate.
