Victor Wembanyama (2.21 m, 19 years old) returns to the Paris region. He signed with the Metropolitans for his last professional season in France before the NBA adventure.
Announced as the first pick in the 2023 NBA draft, the young prodigy was spoiled for choice between staying in Villeurbanne, opting for the G-League, the Australian NBL, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Basketball and other clubs.
Finally, Victor Wembanyama renounced his contract with ASVEL and signed for two years in Boulogne-Levallois. Of course, a clause will allow him to leave for the NBA at the end of the first year.
If he chose the Metropolitans, who are not registered in a European cup, it is because of the presence as coach of Vincent Collet whose talents as a trainer are no longer to be demonstrated. “Welby” could also be called to the French team for international windows during the year.
Finally, this choice is explained by his desire to have time to progress physically, while risking fewer games and therefore less possible injury that would slow his rise.
