New coach of Peristeri, Greek legend Vassilis Spanoulis (40) started with a victory in his debut as a coach in Basketball Champions League.
At home, his team of Peristeri won comfortably (86-70) against Israelian last finalist, Bnei Herzliya, while the lead was already 15 points at halftime.
The Greek coach was able to count on former ASVEL player Miro Bilan (17 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for 29 points in 25 minutes) as well as on French point guard Sylvain Francisco with 16 points and 6 assists.
“There are a lot of differences between being a player and being a head coach, but you are always on the basketball court”, told Vassilis Spanoulis to the Greek press after a victorious first week on the Peristeri bench. He continued: “From a psychological point of view, there are similarities. I really enjoy being a head coach, I believe what I do defines my character. I want my team to reflect a modern understanding of basketball on the court this season.”
