Aleksandar Petrovic (63 years), is the new interim coach of the Croatian national team. He had already held the position twice.
Elder brother of the late legend Drazen Petrovic, Aleksandar Petrovic had joined the staff a month ago as sports director. But the upcoming deadlines (pre-qualification for EuroBasket 2025 against Austria and Poland, November 10 and 13) led him to take the position of coach.
Petrovic had already coached Croatia at the 1995 and 2001 EuroBasket and the 2016 Olympic Games. He also coached Brazil and Bosnia and Herzegovina. He replaces Damir Mulaomerović, who arrived in January 2022 and was already out of the selection after Croatia’s elimination in 1/8 finals at EuroBasket.
“I am aware of the importance of this next window for future summers because if both games are won, we already get a quality summer of work in 2023 and could participate in the pre-qualification for the Paris Olympics. I have accepted this interim coaching role until the end of the season. I am ready to work through both windows until we reach a final solution.”
