During this qualification window for EuroBasket 2023, Spain, Italy and Latvia have validated their ticket for the competition. Eleven places are still vacant since Israel and Slovenia are automatically qualified as host countries. France can join the qualifiers in the next round.
Spain sealed their place by beating Hungary 77-66 in Group C as Astou Ndour had 21 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks. Italy qualified by sweeping Slovakia 81-60 in Group H. It was a collective effort with all 12 players on the roster getting points, Costanza Verona accumulating 16 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists.
Latvia was the first to book their ticket with a 79-73 win over Israel with Anete Steinberga on the trail of a triple double with 22 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists, while Kitija Laksa added 23 points.
Of note, coach Rachid Méziane’s Belgium now controls Group A after exacting sweet revenge for last year’s loss to Bosnia-Herzegovina with a 100-60 landslide victory. Emma Meesseman showed her class as always with a near triple-double of 20 points, 10 assists and 9 rebounds.
