Cholet, an exceptional year 2022

By beating Limoges on Tuesday night, Cholet concluded a fantastic year 2022, punctuated by 25 successes out of 35 championship games. What was unthinkable 365 days earlier.

We didn’t think much of them in December 2021 when they were mired at the bottom of the Betclic Elite table. Everything has changed since then. A year later, the Choletais almost knocked off ASVEL in the playoffs, made their return to the European Cup – second round of the FIBA Europe Cup – and are on the podium of the French championship at mid-season.

If we take into account the calendar year 2022, Cholet Basket has won 25 victories for 35 games of championship. An exceptional vintage, as noted by coach Laurent Vila in a press conference after the victory over Limoges Tuesday night at La Meilleraie (81-74). Already the eleventh of the season 2022-23 for the club of Mauges, after 15 days.

“It was important to bounce back after the defeat in Levallois but also to remain undefeated at home. Everyone has this feeling that we are doing something good – even if it is never excellent – and that we can mark the history of Cholet Basket. In any case, it is a very beautiful year 2022. And it gives us the hope to realize a very beautiful end of season. Nevertheless, we must have more ambition and self-denial because I think we slowed down in December. We must not waste, and it will depend on our ability to raise our level after the break. Because I think we can do it, we have a young team, especially inside. That’s what I hope for January-February.”
